 VRAM - Video memory is RAM installed on a video adapter of the computer. RAM is random access memory and is a type of volatile memory. The video memory first places an image in a sequence that it may encounter in a frame store which is a kind of bitmap. 

The image is then displayed on the screen as we see it in the form of an image or a movie.

The amount of video memory available in the video adapter is an important factor in how the image is viewed by the user. This is what determines the maximum resolution and color depth of the film. 

Once this is known it is easy to see how video cards have evolved from simple colors to an array of available colors with varying resolution. If the amount of memory stored in the adapter is small the resolution and color depth of the resulting image will be low with viewing.

Windows Random Access Memory supports two ports that allow it to retrieve memory at the same time it receives it. 

This makes it faster than VRAM and comes with a lower price tag. Most of the cost difference is because WRAM supports large blocks or windows of video data.

The Rambus' random access memory has a transfer rate of up to 800 MHz. It is faster than the average SDRAM. For this reason, RDRAM began replacing VRAM in many products in 1997. This type of video memory is often found in Pentium processors in computers.

Synchronous random access memory is used in graphics accelerators. It can sync with CPU clock clocks up to 100 MHz via a single port with the ability to open two memory pages simultaneously. 

It also uses other techniques to increase the bandwidth for images.

In video memory, your needs depend on how much you use the graphics accelerators and video adapters. For people with low usage, VRAM may be all it takes to achieve the desired results in the computer. 

Graphic artists are likely to employ the amount of bandwidth as well as the speed when they choose to use SDRAM and RDRAM types as a solution. 

Job requirements will have an impact on the choices made and the costs involved in investing in other types of such. 

Upgrading is an option for those looking for more speed and bandwidth and can be achieved by simply changing the graphics acceleration cards and video cards in the processor. A more powerful CPU may be needed if upgrading for optimal performance.
