Type of Connectors Used in a Laptop

Connectors are found in most electronic devices; Laptops come packaged in a variety of these components. A better understanding of the existing connector ports on a laptop can help increase efficiency and ease of use.

USB connectors

Connecting a portable USB drive or an external hard drive via a USB port is no longer a big deal. Anyone who has a laptop will know USB ports; however, they may not be aware of different versions in the market like USB 1.0 USB 2.0 and USB 3.0. These are classified based on speed and efficiency performance.

USB 1.0 Although the slowest USB 3.0 that can give you the highest data transfer speed. USB 1.0 and 2.0 are pretty similar and easy to spot. They have a rectangular metal interface with four connecting pins made of brass.

USB 3.0 is a newer version and offers very high speed; Although they are similar in shape they have nine connecting pins. USB 1.0 and 2.0 can be replaced in the second place while USB 3.0 can only be used on the devices specified for this type of connector.

Audio connectors are another common finding in laptops. In the past laptops had a plug-in evacuation that offered mono sound. It has been upgraded to a double bonus that provides stereo sounds.

These days a single stereo socket with a microphone input is used. These connectors are used to transmit audio signals in and out and are easily identified by their small circular design.

HDMI connectors

The latest laptop models come with an HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) connector that helps connect to a modern TV in high definition for video transmissions. HDMI connectors have largely replaced the VGA output used in older laptops to transmit video signals to larger screens or TVs.

These HDMI connectors have two lines one with nine pins and the other holding ten pins that number a total of nineteen connections.

On the other hand, the VGA connectors had three rows with five pinholes in each row in a rectangular shape with curved edges. HDMI connectors offer improved video quality with more touch interfaces.

Network authors

In addition to these connectors, there is an RJ45 connector for network connection. It comes in a square design and eight brass pins.

The cable is held to the connector although it has caught it. These are usually used to connect the router box or network cable directly to the laptop. Older laptops had a smaller version of this connector that contained only four pins. It was used to get an internet connection via landline.
